Conil, the paradise of the Costa de la Luz where everyone wants to travel
In spite of the proliferation of visitors over recent years, due to our wonderful location, Conil de la Frontera still retains the charm of the small fishing and farming village it used to be.
Conil, a fabulous spot
I know we’re saying it ourselves, but Conil really is a fashionable destination. It’s not unusual to ask friends and family where they want to go on holiday or where they’ve chosen for a summer getaway and for them all to give the same answer: Conil de la Frontera in Spain. From north to south, travel enthusiasts all agree: Conil is their destination.
The fact is that Cadiz, or more specifically Conil, has long been the perfect place to spend some fabulous time with your partner, friends, family or even with colleagues from the office. The secret? It has everything – for everyone.
The locals are quiet people who know how to enjoy life. Sunsets, strolling along the streets, chatting on terraces without keeping an eye on your watch, waving as you pass by, smiles and a sense of self are qualities cultivated over the years that will infect you as soon as you arrive.
Discover Conil’s beaches and landscapes.
Although it may sound like a cliché, there is no doubt that the beaches, sand and sea are a big feature in Conil. Kilometres of beach where even when the tide comes in you can still sunbathe, stroll, swim, read a good book under the shade of an umbrella, take a long nap and more. Anyone coming here to disconnect will find this ‘routine’ to be the best cure for all of their city ailments.
All of the beaches are recommendable, but you definitely mustn’t miss Castilnovo Beach, Bateles Beach, Fuente del Gallo Beach, Roche Beach and Torre de El Puerco Beach.
Savour the gastronomy.
Visit the historic quarter
Just wandering around the pedestrian area of Conil, stopping off at the La Chanca visitors’ centre to learn about tuna, the sea and the ‘almadraba’ fishing technique, the picturesque arch at Puerta de la Villa, the fishing district – whose winding streets connect to the Barrio de las Flores (flower district) and the Mercado de Abastos (municipal food market)… All of this will be an experience in itself.
If you feel like uncovering some hidden secrets that only the most curious know about, we recommend you taka a guided tour organised by the townspeople themselves, which you can book at the tourist information office. Anyone who has visited us before already knows this. And the best part of it all is that everyone who takes the tour repeats it.
What to do and see in Conil de la Frontera?
Nature activities
Don’t worry. If you don’t have any plans, there’s always things to do in Conil. From taking a walk in a pine forest or along a cliff, to ziplining. Yes, yes, you can do that too. Surfing classes of all kinds: windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP surfing… Or cycling routes. There are no activities you can’t do by day.
And if you’re into hiking, there are lots of very inviting trails for you to take. Our first suggestion is to walk from the bridge that crosses the Salado River to Zahora, passing the Castilnovo watchtower and stopping off at one of the terraces in El Palmar to get your strength back.
Enjoy Conil at night
And the night life is perfect for just having a quiet drink or for going out partying with friends. There’s a wide variety of clubs and pubs and the best part about it is that you won’t have to drive, because there’s a little of everything in the centre of Conil.
You could start the evening having a drink at La Tertulia, then head to La Cochera, from where you might be lucky enough to spot some storks on the belltower of the old church next door. La Luna comes next. These are all open-air premises with a really good atmosphere. And if you fancy a club, the Ícaro awaits.
